LG Makes Touchscreen Cellphone
LG has come up with a cellphone that has a full touchscreen interface. This would mean that the screen would fit the entire face of the cellphone and there would be no need for a physical keypad. This is definitely the way of the future because there is more screen than buttons. Imagine viewing a movie in full screen on the phone! Sweet!

Water From Thin Air?
Just when you thought it was crazy to produce fresh water from seawater, Aqua Science Corp has developed a way to make it out of THIN AIR! Apparently there is enough water in the air, even dry desert air, to produce substantial water. The machine's workings are a trade secret but the CEO of Aqua Science did give us a clue: "Think of rice used in saltshakers that acts as a magnet to extract water and keeps salt from clumping." That still seems like rocket science to me. Link.

I Would Not Step Into This Elevator!

And you might not, too. But alas, the elevator with no floor is just an eye illusion print on a solid floor that is so realistic that it just about fools everybody. This kind of reminds me of Indiana Jones when he had to make thate Leap of Faith over the canyon for the Holy Grail only to find that there was a passage way painted so real that it was camoflage against the background. In this case, the artist on the elevator even put up a sign to say "work in progress." I wonder what else it says. Maybe my Chinese-reading audience may translate for me.

Red One High Tech High Def Camera
This is the latest high definition digital camera called Red One from Red Digital Cinema. This company was founded by the same guy who founded Oakley sunglasses in Rancho Santa Margarita. This camera boast high resolution pictures in a camcorder the size of any other camcorder. There is no need to lug around an IMAX camera to get the eye-popping and neck straining picture. The camera seen here is just a prototype though. Full production is still unknown. There was a scare last week when thieves broke into the building and stole documents. However, the prototype is still safe in the hands of RDC. Link.

Japanese Land-Walker
Some crazy people in Japan have created a Land-Walker reminiscent of those in Star Wars. They even fitted it with guns which are not real powerful considering they fire out rubber balls. But fit that with a mini-gun and rocket launcher and you will be ready of Robot-Wars! This robot is 11 feet tall and costs only $315,000.

Spontaneous Laptop Combustion
While this laptop was sitting in standby mode, it caught on fire and set off smoke alarms. The whole building had to be evacuated as the fire fighters came in to investigate. From the looks of it, the battery caught on fire hence the smoldering battery compatment. After all the smoke had cleared, the laptop top portion was plastic-welded together with the bottom. And yes - it is a Dell. Just in case you guys did not catch the first reported case of SLC, a Dell in Japan caught on fire too. Link.

Microsoft Zune Teaser
Rumor has it that this is the Microsoft Zune Teaser. You do not get to see the Zune in it (but the Zune does get to see you) but everything suggests that it is genuine. The graphics are professionally done and you get to see a guy holding out a miniature multimedia device. Can any Microsoft people please confirm that this is truly the Zune teaser?

Intel's Quad Core Processor
What's better than two processors? Fur processors of course. With its new Core 2 Duo chip, Intel has once again regain its top spot as the fastest chip available for desktops. What's more is that Intel also wants to finish this debate once and for all with a quad-core chip. That is four processors on a single chip manufacturered on the same die. Will this be enough to kick AMD out of the picture completely? Well, what ever it may be, it is good enought for me.

Blu-Ray Versus HD-DVD
The war is still brewing between these two video formats and I would like to keep my dear audience updated on who is winning. At this moment, Blu-Ray has 14 titles out with 76 on the horizon. HD-DVD has 36 titles out and 129 on the horizon. Thus HD-DVD has more titles out with more studios supporting their format and gets the thumbs up for that. In other news, the world's first Blu-ray player the Samsung BD-P1000 has encounted some technical difficulties. It seems that the softness filter has been switched on the video and there is no way to sharpen the image until the next firmware is released. The softness filter blurs the image to the point where it is about DVD quality. Considering that Blu-ray technology cost as much as HD-DVD, this is another setback for Blu-ray thus another thumbs up to HD-DVD. Finally, here is another interesting tit-bit: according to Chris Bucholz, who studied the VHS vs Betamax war, claims that HD-DVD will win the format wars over Blu-Ray based on name alone. Check it out.

Electric Roadsters

Lithium-ion batteries are not just for cell phones and laptops any more. In comes the Tesla Roadster, a two seater that can go from 0 to 60 mph in about 4 seconds and has a top speed of 130 mph. The package itself is beautiful and not Frankenstein invention that resembles the first-generation Honda Prius. This one actually looks like a sports car. It seems that lately, electric cars are outperforming their gasoline counterparts and this one is no exception. This car is totally brilliant. The only downside is that being an electric car, you will need to recharge it every night for a few hours. No instant gratification at the gas station here. Is there a possibility that they can make this into a hybrid? Link.

AA Battery Powered Airplane
They did it! The Tokyo Institute of Technology was able to create a airplane that is powered by 160 AA batteries and can stay airbourne for about a minute and cover a distance of 400 meters. The time may be short and the distance not record breaking but it is a proof of concept that batteries can power just about anything. The batteries themselves are also no ordinary AA but instead are manufactured by Oxyride, contains the compound Oxy Nickel Hydroxide and has the capacity of 1.5 times that of regular alkalines.News Link.

I have never heard of Helio until yesterday. They are your typical small name cellphone company in the midst of others such as Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile. Helio has had some trouble in starting up but finally they have made it to the TV Commercial stage. Check out their new ad.
Retro Brick Cellphone
Retro is always in style right? Well, this cellphone made by Micro-T will be have its mark sealed in history as it reintroduces the retro brick design. Some of you may not remember but there was a time where the weight of cellphones was measured in pounds instead of just ounces. This phone is one of them. Of course, some features on the phone have been upgraded including color LCD screen, polyphonic ringtones and the ability to do text message. Prices have not been announced yet but this potentially may be my next cellphone.

Nothing can defined "cool" better than this monster motorcycle. The Hyanide is an all-terrain bike powered by a 60-hp 500cc liquid cooled engine but varies from other bikes in that it has a single track instead of the usual two tires. This means the Hyanide is able to move over many types of terrain including mud and snow with ease. What's more is that due to its extra wide track, it is highly stable especially at its top speed of 85 mph. Now sign me up for a test drive. Unfortunately, the Hyanide is not in production and there are no plans to do so. However, automotive enthusiates have expressed interest in the concept vehicle.

Slashdot.org: The Sharpest Object Ever Made
ultracool writes "Forget the phrase 'sharp as a tack.' Now, thanks to new University of Alberta research, the popular expression might become, 'sharp as a single atom tip formed by chemically assisted spatially controlled field evaporation.' Maybe it doesn't roll off the tongue as easily, but considering the researchers have created the sharpest object ever made, it would be accurate."
Can you believe this shapest object's point is only one atom large? Can't get any smaller than that.

Blu-ray/HD-DVD/DVD/CD Combo Reader/Writer Drive

Ricoh believes it has found a way to incorporate the latest technologies in optical drives together. This is due to their invention of a special lens that can support all formats. Anysway Ricoh will be releasing the reader version of the lens within the next few months and will release the writer version next year.
